Hi I’m Trudie, founder and co-owner of BabyZen.
My BabyZen dream started in 2015 when I’d returned to my job as a Health Visitor after having my two children in quite quick succession. I was in the depths of sleep deprivation (my second child firmly believed that sleep was for the weak!) and the stress of the job was taking away from the joy of Motherhood. I knew what I loved about my job, supporting and empowering mothers, and I began to think of other, more family friendly ways, in which I could do this.
So BabyZen was born. I first gained my qualification in baby massage, then later came baby sign and baby yoga. I found I could really apply my years of experience in paediatric nursing and health visiting to the groups and parents valued being able to tap into that knowledge. At first I ran the groups alongside health visiting until the day I decided to take the leap into full time self employment!
And I haven’t looked back! Even through the early years of singing away to two people in my Sing, Sign and Sensory groups I remained fueled by the passion that is still at the core of everything BabyZen stands for. Supporting and empowering parents.
Over the years I have loved watching BabyZen grow and develop with more and more new classes, groups and workshops being added all the time. I was so excited when Chloe, a regular BabyZenner, agreed to officially join me as my business partner in the summer of 2019. I have known Chloe for years and have so much respect for her creativity and vision. She has brought so much to BabyZen and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us.
But the thing I’m most proud of is the BabyZen community. An amazing group of diverse women (and men!) who come together under the banner of parenthood. I watch them cheer for each other, commiserate with each other and raise each other up. Every group is supportive and judgement free. People come as strangers and leave as friends and knowing I have a small part to play in that means everything to me.
